CHANCE TO HAIL OUR WALKER CUP HERO

THE Blairgowrie Golf Club is hosting a homecoming evening to celebrate Connor Graham’s key role in GB and Ireland’s memorable 2026 Walker Cup victory.

Connor will be joined at the clubhouse on Friday, December 18 by Walker Cup veterans Stuart Wilson and Gordon Sherry - both past British Amateur champions - to reflect on the dramatic comeback at Lahinch which saw the much fancied USA team defeated for the first time since 2015.

Trailing by three points going into the final session, GB&I, captained by Scotsman Dean Robertson, stormed back into contention in the afternoon singles to claim a 13.5 - 12.5 win and secure the trophy for just the 10th time in its history.

With only two matches to be decided, honorary Blairgowrie member Connor (19) held his nerve to claim a vital half point by winning the final hole after facing a daunting three-hole deficit at the 11th.

It was third time lucky for the former Blairgowrie High pupil, after two previous Walker Cup appearances. He was the youngest ever GB&I player to be selected, in 2023, when he was just 16, and he also featured on that year’s victorious Team Europe Junior Ryder Cup team.

Currently pursuing a sports management golf scholarship at Texas Tech, the December event at his hometown club ties in with his Christmas break.

Tickets for event, which will also feature inspirational Erskine Veterans’ Charity ambassador, Winter Paralympics competitor and Invictus Games medalist Scott Meenagh, are priced £20 including fizz, canapès and a finger buffet. The evening will be compered by Blairgowrie member Gordon Bannerman.

A limited number of sponsors’ tables are available at £320 for eight guests.

The evening will benefit the club’s Junior Section and the Erskine Veterans’ Charity.
